JVEE Casio is giving his PBA career one final push.

The 38-year-old veteran is currently playing for Converge in the 40th Kadayawan Invitational basketball tournament in Davao, with hopes of latching a spot on the FiberXers lineup for the coming PBA Season 50.

The evergreen playmaker from La Salle last played for Blackwater, but no longer received a contract extension at the conclusion of Season 49.

Text messages to Converge management weren’t answered, but Charlie Dy of VP Global Management, which represents the 5-foot-10 Casio, confirmed the guard is trying out with the FiberXers.

“He was invited to work out with Converge, but there’s no offer yet,” said the former champion coach.

So far, Casio has been providing veteran presence in the FiberXers backcourt that is without injured Fil-Am Schonny Winston, playing in the two games they played so far against NLEX and Phoenix.

The FiberXers lost to the Road Warriors, 95-88, but bounced back against the Fuel Masters, 100-98, to even their record to 1-1.

Incidentally, Casio will go up against his former team, as Converge faces the unbeaten Bossing (2-0) on Saturday in the final day of the eliminations at the University of Southeastern Philippines.

With the FiberXers, Casio is reunited with former Alaska personnel in coach Franco Atienza, deputy Danny Ildefonso, alternate governor CK Kanapi-Daniolco, and teammates Kevin Racal and Alec Stockton.

Although selected No. 1 overall by Powerade in the 2011 Draft, it was with Alaska where Casio established himself as the franchise’s resident point guard for years and won his lone PBA championship in the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup.

He played for almost a decade with the Aces and was part of the teams that went to the five straight finals under then-coach Alex Compton.

In 2021, he finally parted ways with the multi-titled franchise which traded him to Blackwater along with Barkley Ebona for the pair of Mike Tolomia and a 2023 second round pick (which turned out to be Bryan Santos).

Casio averaged 9.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 13 seasons, and shot a high 35-percent from three-point range and 81-percent from the foul line.
