MARINA Tushova who took the local volleyball scene by storm by setting successive scoring records, won’t be returning to the Philippines anytime soon — or at least for one year.
This is not because she’s closing the PVL chapter of her immaculate career. It’s only because Tushova is set to begin a new one away from the court.
The 26-year-old Russian winger is expecting her first child with husband Luis Ma. Fuentes.
Tushova shared a clip of their gender reveal with Fuentes where he sprayed blue smoke on a snowy mountain range, indicating they’ll be welcoming a baby boy.
“We’ve been waiting for you with all our love,” Tushova wrote.
The former Capital1 import shared the news during an intimate gathering with close friends and family on Sunday.
“I couldn’t leave my babies without a mini holiday. Like a family for each other,” she said.
Tushova etched her name in the annals of Philippine volleyball by breaking the PVL’s all-time single-game scoring record — not once, not twice, but thrice in her debut conference.
The 6-foot outside hitter first fired 45 points past Choco Mucho, then raised the bar to 49 against Nxled.

Her unprecedented pro league yardstick reached 50 in Capital1’s five-set quarterfinals loss to Cignal in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.
This year’s import-laden play, likely without Tushova, is expected to run during the final quarter of the year before the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in late December.
